# Live-in care

Live-in care is home care in which one caregiver lives in the client's home and supports them through the day and night. The caregiver gets scheduled breaks and sleep. It suits people who need regular help and a nearby presence, but not constant hands-on care every hour.

## Why it matters for your family

Live-in care can keep a parent in a familiar home while the family knows someone is there. One caregiver builds a steady routine with the client, which helps people with memory loss. The main limit is rest. A live-in caregiver must sleep and take breaks, so a person who is up often at night may need more than one caregiver. Families often mix up live-in care and 24-hour care. Live-in care uses one resident caregiver. Ask any provider how it covers breaks, overnight needs, and days off. Medicare does not pay for ongoing non-medical care like this.
