# Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE)

The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) is a Medicare and Medicaid program that provides medical and long-term care services to people who need nursing home level care but can live safely in the community. People must be 55 or older and live in a PACE service area.

## Why it matters for your family

PACE brings health care and support services together under one team, so a participant has one plan for care. It is available only in some states and areas. To join, a person must be 55 or older, live in a PACE organization's service area, qualify for nursing home level care as certified by the state, and be able to live safely in the community. A common mistake is assuming PACE exists everywhere. Families should check whether a program serves their address. Rules and costs depend on Medicaid eligibility. The state Medicaid office or a local Area Agency on Aging can help families find out.
