Frequently asked questions

How HomeCare.com works, who our caregivers are, and what home care costs. For questions about your state, see your state page.

What is HomeCare.com?

HomeCare.com is a home care company founded in 2015 by Todd Walrath. It connects families with credentialed, non-medical caregivers for live-in care, 24-hour care, companion care and personal care. It serves families in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas and Virginia.

Is there a minimum number of hours or a contract?

No. Families can choose the number of visits and the hours per visit, without minimums and with no contracts. You can start with a few hours a week and add more as needs change.

Do you offer live-in and 24-hour care?

Yes. HomeCare.com specializes in live-in care and 24/7 coverage. With live-in care, one caregiver stays in the home and takes breaks and rest periods. With 24-hour care, caregivers work in rotating shifts so someone is always awake.

How quickly can care start?

HomeCare.com says its large caregiver base lets it provide a caregiver on short notice and back up care. Call 800-974-3458 and a care advisor will talk through your timing and needs.

Do your caregivers provide medical care?

No. HomeCare.com care is non-medical. Caregivers help with daily living: companionship, meals, housekeeping, errands, bathing, dressing, mobility and medication reminders. They do not give medication, do wound care or provide skilled nursing. A doctor can order home health care for medical needs.

How are caregivers screened?

Every caregiver HomeCare.com refers passes a background check that covers at least the past seven years. It includes a Social Security number trace, federal and state criminal records, the national sex offender registry, license verification and, if requested, a motor vehicle check. The team also reviews each profile and photo.

How do I know the caregiver showed up?

The HomeCare.com mobile app confirms the caregiver is actually at your house on time and that your billed hours are accurate.

What if our caregiver is sick or cannot make it?

HomeCare.com has dedicated staffing and support teams 7 days a week for things like weather, car trouble and emergencies, and it can arrange back up care.

How much does home care cost?

The U.S. median for a non-medical caregiver is $35 an hour in CareScout's 2025 Cost of Care Survey. Local medians in HomeCare.com locations vary. See the cost page for your city. HomeCare.com does not publish rates online, so call a care advisor for pricing based on your schedule.

Does Medicare pay for home care?

Medicare does not pay for ongoing non-medical home care when that is the only care you need. It can cover part-time skilled home health care ordered by a doctor for people who are homebound. Some state Medicaid programs, VA benefits and long-term care insurance policies can help pay for non-medical care. Ask a care advisor which payment options apply to you.
