State programs
STAR+PLUS (Texas)
STAR+PLUS is a Texas Medicaid managed care program for adults with disabilities and adults age 65 or older. Members choose a health plan. The plan provides health care and long-term services and supports, such as personal assistance. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission runs the program.
Why it matters for your family
All STAR+PLUS members receive service coordination. A coordinator visits within 30 days of enrollment and at least once a year to help with care planning. Long-term services include personal assistance, day activity and health services, emergency response, and Community First Choice. A common mistake is to think STAR+PLUS is a separate way to qualify. A person must first be approved for Medicaid. Some members also qualify for the STAR+PLUS HCBS waiver. Contact your health plan or HHSC to ask what services you qualify for. Families can ask the coordinator about home changes and respite when needs grow.
